Structural Wood Screw Presentation at HBRAVT

On December 2, 2010, Brice Hereford presented to the first of an annual series of joint meetings between BSA-VT and the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Vermont.  This series of annual presentations will be directed at bringing information about building technology and products to our building community.

Brice Hereford is a Certified Sustainable Designer whose interest in energy efficiency goes back to the Energy Crisis of the 1970s.   He is continually upgrading his skill set in Building Science and how best to integrate the code requirements with contractors’ abilities.  His focus is on the building envelope design, structure and the necessity of excellent air-sealing and insulation both inside and outside the cavity.

As the Code Compliance Specialist for FastenMaster, an American manufacturer of Structural Wood Screws, Brice Hereford works with the code community on educating code officials as well as builders, architects and engineers throughout the country in seeking more cost effective and stronger connections using Code Compliant Structural Wood Screws versus traditional fasteners.  Over the last several months he has spoken to large and small groups of Building Code Officials, Architects, Engineers and Builders on the topic of ICC Approved Structural Wood-to-Wood Fasteners. 

He is a graduate of the Boston Architectural College’s Sustainable Design Certificate program and lives in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.  He is also available to teach IECC Fundamentals, IECC Update and IECC Residential Provisions for both Designers and Builders.
