Wednesday, January 9, 2013

7:30am - 3:00pm

Red School House

South Randolph Road

Vermont Technical College

Randolph, VT

This seminar introduces participants to the major changes from the 2006 IBC to the 2012 IBC with an emphasis of the changes contained in Chapters 1-11 with additional focus on applying Ch. 5 (GENERAL BUILDING HEIGHTS AND AREAS) and 7 (FIRE AND SMOKE PROTECTION FEATURES) requirements. The lecture and activity format allows participants to discuss the changes, reasons for the changes, and answer knowledge review questions. Information presented will allow participants to apply these new code requirements to design, plan review, and/or inspection.

Note: The 2012 VT Fire & Building Safety Code now incorporates the 2012 IBC. See

the Division of Fire Safety website for more info.

Upon completion, participants will be better able to:

    • Identify the most significant differences between the 2006 IBC and the 2012 IBC.

    • Explain the differences between the current and previous edition.

    • Identify changes in organization and code requirements.

    • Identify the applicability of design, plan review and inspection requirements.

Presented by: Bruce E. Johnson, Northeast Regional Manager & Director of Fire Service Activities, International Code Council

Included in the schedule is an overview of a study completed on behalf of the Vermont Department of Public Service by Navigant Consulting to survey new buildings and their energy-impacting characteristics. The Vermont Market Characterization and Assessment Study for Commercial New Construction and Major Renovation is in final editing and due for release within the next several weeks. Designed to help establish an energy code compliance baseline, the study and its survey methods and process will be reviewed and initial results discussed. Learn about some of the key trends underway in Vermont's newly constructed and renovated buildings and discuss the role of energy codes (and compliance) in new building design and construction.
