6 AIA/HSW credits
Vermont’s housing shortage is significant, yet many of our villages, towns and cities have underused older buildings: buildings currently rated Mercantile, Business, Industrial, Single Family Home, or Mixed Use. This course explores the building code side of converting these buildings to partial or full Multi-Family use. By focusing on two case studies, we will cover use of the VT Fire & Building Safety Code, separation of uses, egress, life safety, elevators, sprinklering, accessibility, historic preservation, and Chapter 43. We are limiting the course size to encourage broad discussion. This day will not cover the interaction between Vermont building energy and construction codes due to time limitations.
